Building Community Since 1985
Ridelle Co-operative Homes opened for occupancy in 1951 as a privately owned residential building.
In 1985, the owners sought to increase rent charges above city guidelines due to extensive renovations. In response, the members of Ridelle obtained legal advice and requested that the government purchase the building to protect affordability. Their request was approved, and the building was converted into a Non Profit Housing Cooperative.
Ridelle Co-operative Homes Inc. is owned by the Co-operative Housing Federation of Canada (CHFC).
Our Units
Ridelle Co-op is a 4-storey residential apartment building comprised of 63 one-bedroom and two-bedroom units. 35 units are rent-geared-to-income (RGI) and 28 are market-rate units.
Right next to the co-op is J.T. Watson Park at 605 Ridelle Avenue, with a playground, swings, and shaded seating.
Our Values
Co-operatives are founded on the principles of self-help, self-responsibility, democracy, equality, equity, and solidarity. These values guide how we work together, make decisions, and support one another as a community.
In keeping with the traditions established by the co-operative movement’s founders, members are committed to upholding the ethical values of honesty, openness, social responsibility, and caring for others. Through mutual respect, fairness, and shared responsibility, we strive to create a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment where every member has the opportunity to contribute and thrive.
These values are the foundation of our co-operative and reflect our commitment to building a strong community based on trust, participation, and concern for the well-being of all.
